The Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire is a dynamically developed contemporary Russian institution of higher education, a large educational, research and cultural center of the Volga region. There is a highly professional teaching staff at the conservatoire. The staff consists of more than 200 teachers including professors and associate-professors, doctors and candidates of science, teachers awarded with honorary titles and awards (prizes).

 

The conservatoire maintains and develops the best traditions of the Russian academic musical school. Broad geography of applicants and invariably high competition at the entrance exams testify to the conservatoire prestige. 

 

Contacts with foreign institutes (institutions of higher education) are strengthened; exchange of creative visits takes place. There are favourable circumstances (conditions) for education of foreign citizens. Among graduates you can find students, post-graduate students and probationers from Austria, Belgium, Serbia, China, Korea, and Mongolia.

 

The list of educational programs for qualifications and training schools is vast. Alongside with traditional for the conservatoire qualifications (instrumental performance, conducting, vocal art, musicology and composition) new contemporary schools of higher and post-graduate education are opened: musical sound design, art of acting (qualification “actor of a musical theatre”) and pedagogical education. Authorings for professional refresher courses were developed and adopted in educational process which enabled students to be qualified as “musical lecturer” and “musical critic-journalist, mass media editor: TV, radio”, “musical and informational technologies”.

High level of specialists training quality of the Nizhniy Novgorod conservatoire is confirmed by numerous victories of students and post-graduate students in All-Russia and international competitions. Traditionally the Nizhny Novgorod conservatoire initiates and organizes professional competitions of young musicians in all performing specialities as well as in theory and history of music.

 

Education at the Nizhniy Novgorod State Glinka Conservatoire is involved in the cultural environment very much. Studying in Nizhniy Novgorod foreign students get a possibility to attend concerts in the Academic Philharmonic Society, the Opera and Ballet Theatre named after PushkinChamber musical theater, perfect their knowledge of the language in the Drama theatreComedy theatre and so on.

Visiting Kremlin, Exhibition hall, Art museumHistorical museum, (see also http://www.admgor.nnov.ru/references/soc/museums.html) going sightseeing in Nizhniy Novgorod, they get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Russia and our region.

 

In the conservatoire itself concerts in the concerts in the Bolshoi and Maly concert halls take place practically every day. Teachers, students and post-graduate students go on tours intensively and contribute a lot to the prestige of our performing school. There is a long term tradition of scientific and artistic projects including cycles of concerts, research conferences, master-classes, art exhibitions, publications in the conservatoire. Among the most important events there is traditional All-Russia open choir festival named after L.K.Sivukhin, All-Russia competition of wind and percussion performers named after A.A.Nesterov, International festival of contemporary music “Pictures from exhibition”, All-Russia festival of contemporary music “Exposition XXI”, festivals “Mozart in Russia”, “J.S.Bach’s tradition in contemporary culture”, numerous jubilee festivals.


One of the leading Russian research schools studying contemporary musical art has been formed in the Glinka Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire. Post-graduate courses and Dissertation council in speciality “Musical art” are very active. Interdisciplinary research and artistic projects (“XX century: paradoxes of absurd culture”, “XX century: elite and masses”, “Harmony and disharmony in art”, “Chaos and order in musical art”, “Listening to France with heart…”, “Images of Italy” and others) have been held for many years.


Traditionally the Nizhny Novgorod conservatoire initiates and organizes professional competitions of young musicians in all performing specialities as well as in theory and history of music. 


  Intensive dynamic of multidimensional development of the institute of higher education and efficient system of the quality of training of professional musicians was not once honoured with high public appraisal. The conservatoire in Nizhniy Novgorod invariably wins the leading places in the rating lists of professional institutions of higher education. Professor E.Fertelmeister a famous composer and conductor, a member of the Council of composers and the Council of theater workers of the Russian Federation, holder of the order of Friendship, People’s artist of Russia heads the conservatoire.
